Cell and Gene Therapies Magazine

Genetic Alliance UK launches a magazine about cell and gene therapies.

Recent advancements in cell and gene therapies means that they now offer a potentially life-saving option for some people living with genetic conditions or cancers; however, it is important that people who may benefit from these treatments, and the wider public, have a good understanding as to what these therapies are.

Genetic Alliance UK have carried out various activities over the years to improve people’s awareness of cell and gene therapies, the latest being creating a magazine that aims to:

  • give a snapshot as to the current landscape for cell and gene therapies
  • provide an overview as to what cell and gene therapies are and why they are relevant to people living with rare and genetic conditions
  • address some of the questions that often arise from our community.

Raising Awareness In Parliament

On Tuesday 13 June 2023, the All Party Parliamentary Group on Rare, Genetic and Undiagnosed Conditions hosted a drop-in session in collaboration with the Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult where Members of Parliament could hear about the importance of cell and gene therapies.

The magazine was launched at the drop-in session and used to explain to MPs the challenges in accessing cell and gene therapies for people with rare conditions.

Members from the Haemophilia Society and Alex TLC joined the drop-in to provide examples of conditions which would benefit from a gene therapy but many in the UK are unable to access.

In total, 14 MPs joined the event to hear about how they can advocate for better access to cell and gene therapies across the UK.
