Upskilling rare community leaders to promote emotional wellbeing

We’re excited to announce the launch of new Member Benefit for staff or volunteers working for Genetic Alliance UK member organisations.

Collaborating with RareMinds,  an organisation that provides online counselling and wellbeing services for rare disease charities, over the next six months we will be offering the opportunity to take part in a 12 week program to build emotional resilience and wellbeing. The sessions will be led by two psychotherapists who specialise in supporting people affected by rare conditions.

What the program offers:

The sessions will offer the opportunity to learn with, and from, colleagues from other groups and organisations and develop strong peer support networks that can continue once the sessions have finished.

  • Learn skills to build emotional resilience and protect their own emotional wellbeing.
  • Understand how to manage difficult situations when supporting their members and online communities.
  • Develop techniques to maintain effective boundaries between their personal and professional life, and when working with their communities.

When?

The sessions will start on Wednesday  13 January 2021. Running over 12 weeks, there will be two 75 minute sessions a week for 8-10 participants. There will be two programs running in January and a further two starting in April.

The January sessions will take place via Zoom every Wednesday with the morning group running from 10:00 to 11:15 and the evening group from 20:00 to 21:15.

Although we know unexpected events can occur, you are required as far as possible, to commit to attending each week in order to join the program.
