We are seeking to appoint up to five new trustees, including a Chair, Deputy Chair and Treasurer. Our Board of Trustees is made up of representatives from our membership. We aim to have a broad range of experiences on the Board, including people directly affected by a genetic condition, carers and family members as well as those working in a professional capacity at one of our member organisations.
As a trustee, you would have the opportunity to become involved in the key national policy debates surrounding healthcare and medical research and be able to share your views and experiences at the highest level, through our work. You would also have the opportunity to become involved in your ongoing activities and projects, helping us to identify our strategic priorities and meet others who are involved in a variety of capacities at healthcare charities across the UK. The Board of Trustees provides strategic direction and governance to our charity, helping to support the Senior Management Team and guide all aspects of our work. Trustees are also registered as directors of Genetic Alliance UK Ltd (our registered company name).
Trustees are expected to attend four board meetings a year and to participate in the life of the organisation between meetings. In addition to attending board meetings, our Chair, Deputy Chair and Treasurer are expected to attend 6 meetings per year of our Finance & Governance Committee. Meetings are held in London on week days. Appointments are for 3 years and renewable for a further term.
Selection, Election & Appointment Process
In order to serve as a trustee of Genetic Alliance UK you must be nominated by one of our members using the form on page 9.Nomination forms will be reviewed by an appointments panel (to comprise the Chair, Deputy Chair, one other Trustee plus an impartial external member). Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview and the panel will subsequently decide which candidates to recommend to our membership at the 2017 AGM (26 September 2017). Prior to proposal for election to the Board, due diligence checks will be completed. Appointments will be confirmed in writing, subject to the outcome of the vote at our AGM.
