Wanted: financially ‘savvy’ individual to improve the lives of over 3.5 million people

 

Genetic Alliance UK is seeking a Treasurer. You will join our committed and enthusiastic board at an exciting time for the charity. 

What will you be doing?

The treasurer plays a vital role in conjunction with our Finance and Governance Committee to ensure robust and sustainable finances for the charity. The role includes:

  • Providing the Board with transparency and clarity on our finances to ensure a clear understanding of controls in place and risks being managed.
  • Working closely with the charity’s independent auditor to provide assurance for the Board.
  • Gaining assurance that the charity keeps proper accounts.
  • Reviewing the charity’s financial performance.
  • Ensuring that the charity’s senior management has in place appropriate policies for finance and investment, along with robust and effective financial controls.
  • Overseeing the charity’s financial risk-management process.
  • Liaising with senior management and financial consultants.
  • Reporting on financial matters to the members
  • Working with management and trustees to set and monitor the budget
  • Chairing our Finance and Governance committee, which meets online four times a year.

 

The Treasurer is also a member of our Trustee Board, and all members are asked to:

  • Attend four Board meetings each year (at least three meetings are online, with one in-person Board meeting each year).
  • Attend one in-person Board Strategy Away Day each year.
  • Attend the one-hour Annual General Meeting in autumn each year.

The roles are voluntary (unpaid), but we reimburse reasonable expenses necessary for attending meetings and taking part in Genetic Alliance UK business. 

Most of our trustees are appointed by Member organisations. If you have a connection with one of the charities in our alliance or the conditions they support, please mention this on your application. We will provide full induction for successful candidates.

Interviews will take place via Zoom on a date to be arranged in January/February 2025.  

Successful candidates will be co-opted to the Board prior to election at the AGM in September 2025.
