Engagement and Support Officer – Rare Resources Scotland

We are seeking an empathetic, proactive, and collaborative new member of the Genetic Alliance UK team. Our new Engagement and Support Officer will deliver a 6-month pilot project to deliver events and create a supportive community for families in Scotland living with genetic, rare, and undiagnosed conditions.

Genetic Alliance UK is the largest alliance of organisations supporting people with genetic, rare, and undiagnosed conditions in the UK. Our members and the people they support are at the heart of everything we do. We advocate for fast and accurate diagnosis, good quality care, and access to the best treatments. We actively support progress in research and engage with decision-makers and the public about the challenges faced by our community.

This vital role, collaborating closely with our Head of Scotland and Public Affairs,  will be instrumental in delivering a groundbreaking pilot project that offers new support to these families. This unique chance allows you to work directly with those affected by genetic, rare, and undiagnosed conditions, expand your professional networks, and help deliver a brand new pilot support service. Key responsibilities include assisting with the development of Scotland-specific support and information services, delivering a programme of in-person and online outreach activities and events, and disseminating our early intervention information toolkit – Rare Resources for Scotland. You will also assist with the facilitation of Genetic Alliance UK’s ‘Contact Us’ information service and work in partnership with key local organisations to deliver holistic support.

This role would be a great fit for someone with a background in delivering engagement events and providing information services within a charity, healthcare, local authority or social care setting.

Part-time: 0.8 FTE  (4 days / 28 hours per week) for a six month period.

Home based with travel within Scotland. Occasional evening and weekend work, including some overnight stays, may be required.

The successful candidate will be required to complete a Disclosure Scotland CHECK.

Benefits:

  • Generous employer pension contribution.
  • Generous annual leave allowance of 25 days (pro rata) plus bank holidays and Christmas closure.
  • Flexible working patterns.
  • Free access to our Employee Assistance Programme.
